This picture shows a regal giraffe posing for the camera while being groomed by 2 red billed oxpeckers. Red billed oxpeckers are often seen on the giraffe's hide, searching for ticks and other parasites. Giraffes have beautiful spotted coats with very thick skin, providing ample protection and insulation. Their skin coloring also provides excellent camouflage, as it has many different patches of variable size and color. While no two individuals have exactly the same pattern, giraffes from the same area appear similar and in groups; plus their coats seem to blend together, confusing predators. |
