South Africa, Timbavati Private Nature Reserve,  Limpopo region, part of the world famous greater Kruger National Park.  Even relaxing with a full belly, his body emits an aura of sheer strength.  The fore body of the lion is very powerfully built, making the lion the strongest of any African cat. This strength enables the lion to deliver blows with its forepaws heavy enough to break a zebra's back.  His luxurious mane fluffs in the wind.  The mane hair is stiff and wiry.  In addition to its primary role of protecting the male during fights, it has been discovered that female lions prefer males with bigger and darker manes.
