Messing Around

This picture has a mother lovingly wrapping her mouth around her year old cub neck atop a termite mound. This is a cuddling / bonding time where both cats are nice and secure on the mound, as their visibility is virtually limitless. Blue, cloudless sky and chewed down dry grass stretch to infinity. Where available, the termite mound is the cheetah's favorite vantage point. Mother's training for survival is just about done as this cub is nearly ready to go out on its own. Typically cubs set out alone on the savanna, leaving their mothers somewhere between 13 and 20 months.

The Selinda Game Reserve, located to the northeast of the Okavango Delta is characterized by its game rich floodplains, straddling the Selinda Spillway linking the Okavango Delta and the Linyanti Swamps in northern Botswana. Many varied habitats are within the Selinda Reserve -- marshes, waterways, riverine forests, dry woodlands and grasslands. The Linyanti River later becomes the Chobe River.
